Mr Bond’s week in review – 2 October

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the IAPS Heads’ Conference, where one speaker reflected on a quotation often attributed to Mark Twain: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Whilst it would be unrealistic to suggest that every boy will discover his life’s purpose during his time at Warwick Junior School, schools have an important role to play in helping young people explore their interests, develop their strengths and discover the things that inspire them.

One of the great privileges of working in a junior school is seeing boys encounter experiences that may spark future passions. This week has provided several such opportunities. Some of our Year 5 boys took part in a Rugby Coaching Day at Warwick School, while Year 4 immersed themselves in an Ancient Greece History Workshop, bringing their classroom learning vividly to life. Year 3 took part in their first away rugby fixture of the year, and we have also elected this year’s House Officials and begun choosing our House Charities. Each of these experiences encourages boys to be curious, take responsibility, develop leadership skills and consider how they can make a positive difference to those around them.

Throughout the week, I have also had the pleasure of awarding a number of Headmaster’s Commendations to boys from Years 3 to 6. These meetings are always among the highlights of my week. The range of work on display was impressive, from wonderfully creative clay heads to imaginative descriptive writing, accurate mathematical thinking, and examples of thoughtful classroom learning. What stood out most was the pride the boys took in their work and their enthusiasm for sharing their achievements.

Looking ahead, there is another busy week in store. We look forward to the PAWS AGM on Monday, followed by the Year 5 and Year 6 Parents’ Evening on Tuesday and Year 3 and Year 4 Parents’ Evening on Wednesday. These occasions provide valuable opportunities to strengthen the partnership between home and school and to celebrate the progress the boys are making. We will also gather for our whole-school photograph, a special moment in the school year and a lasting reminder of the friendships, experiences and shared memories that make our community so special.

As we continue to develop the boys’ independence and curiosity, we hope they will embrace every opportunity that comes their way. By trying new things, pursuing their interests and stepping forward with confidence, they may not yet discover exactly where their future lies, but they will certainly take important steps towards finding out.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
