This week, we introduced our new learning strength of Independence and spent time in assembly exploring what this means in practice for the boys. Using the adventures of the Squirrels from Hey Duggee, we reflected on the idea that independence begins with preparation, grows through perseverance and develops when we take responsibility for our actions. We also discussed an important message for young learners: independence does not mean doing everything alone. Rather, it is about being organised, making good choices, showing resilience when things become difficult and knowing when to seek help from others. We challenged the boys to take small steps towards greater independence, whether by preparing for lessons, completing tasks without reminders or taking responsibility when things do not go as planned.
The importance of making wise and responsible choices was reinforced on Tuesday through our online safety presentation to parents. In a world where technology plays such a significant role in children’s lives, helping young people develop the knowledge, judgement and confidence to navigate the digital world safely remains a vital part of their education. We are grateful to the parents who attended and continue to support this important partnership between home and school.
It has also been wonderful to see the boys representing the school in the first fixtures of the academic year. Our U10 and U11 rugby teams approached the first game of the season with enthusiasm, determination, and a strong sense of teamwork. While results are always welcome, it is the commitment, sportsmanship and willingness to learn that provide the strongest foundations for future success.
On Wednesday, our Year 6 boys took part in a Breathe mindfulness workshop. As they begin their final year at Warwick Junior School, it was an excellent opportunity to think about wellbeing, self-awareness and the strategies that can help them manage both challenges and opportunities with confidence.
Yesterday, the boys were looking particularly smart for the individual and class photographs. These annual moments provide a wonderful snapshot of the boys at this stage of their journey and are always a highlight of the autumn term. This afternoon, we were equally impressed by those Year 6 boys who stood in the House Captain elections. Putting yourself forward for a leadership role takes courage and confidence, and every candidate should be proud of the commitment and ambition they demonstrated.
As we continue through the first few weeks of term, we encourage all the boys to embrace the challenge set out in assembly: to take that first step, to show greater independence in both their learning and daily routines, and to support one another along the way.
I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
