Academic learning

Academic learning

Academic excellence, personal progress, and a joy of learning are fundamental to a Warwick Junior School education. Our excellent teaching staff support boys in developing a depth of knowledge and understanding across the different academic disciplines.

Our academic provision aims to shape creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and independence.

We want our boys not only to learn well but to be curious, confident and become individuals that are equipped to thrive in all subjects.

All pupils follow a core curriculum of English, maths and science throughout their four years with us. This is enriched by art, computing, design & technology, languages, geography, history, music, performing arts, physical education, PSHEE and religious education.

Physical development is equally important. Each class enjoys a double lesson of PE each week taught by members of the specialist PE Department, alongside a dedicated Games afternoon led by the Junior School and Senior School sports staff.

“At the heart of our teaching is a commitment to knowing every boy as an individual. Our dedicated teachers create engaging, challenging lessons that spark curiosity, build confidence and nurture a love of learning, ensuring each pupil achieves his best and flourishes academically and personally.”

Learning in the Lower School

When boys join in Year 3, they are place into a form group and will remain in the same form group throughout their time in lower school. In Year 3 and 4, pupils will benefit from the close support of their Form Tutor, who teaches their lessons in core subjects, English, maths and science.

Specialist teachers lead lessons in languages, music, art, design and technology, computing, PE and games, ensuring expert teaching from the very start.

Learning in the Upper School

At the end of Year 4, forms are rebalanced to encourage new friendships, collaboration and positive learning relationships, preparing boys well for the increased independence of the Upper School.

As pupils move through into the Upper School into Year 5 and Year 6, they will benefit from specialist teaching in core subjects, English, maths and science, alongside their other subjects. This structure supports high levels of challenge, expanding boys’ academic horizons while developing the skills, confidence and personal responsibility needed in preparation for their transition to Senior School.
